New UK Civil Aviation Authority Deadlines Approaching

As part of the new regulations set to come into force from April 2015, all North Sea helicopter passengers will be required to sit in a seat where the nearest push-out emergency exit window is compatible with their body size. This will be measured by specifically-trained trainers and medics. Industry group, Step Change in Safety, has worked with the Passenger Size Work Group and members of Robert Gordon University, to create the strategy based on a passenger’s shoulder width, which has been found to be the most reliable and appropriate measure of body size.

Step Change in Safety have created a Passenger Size FAQ document regarding the size regulations that were announced in October 2014.

The new helicopter safety regulations means more than 60,000 offshore workers will require the measurement, and we must ensure our contractors can continue to travel safely to and from offshore installations.
